JANUARY 30 Opening of Kaway Festival KAWAY FESTIVAL is a weeklong, almost a ten-day festivity highlighted with different activities and colorful, fun-filled happenings that speak of Tagkawayanin artistic and fun-loving culture.

Judging of Arko Contest -Arko contest is a competition that features the creative and artistic prowess of Tagkawayanos in building arkos out of native raw materials available in the locality.



FEBRUARY 01 Launching of Agri/Trade Fair 

Agricultural and Trade Fair is a competitive exhibition of agricultural and fishery products and household skills of local farmers, fishermen and producers held annually in the municipality that showcases and demonstrates products (OTOP products) and services.



FEBRUARY 02 Photo Exhibit 

A exhibit of old photos, memorabilia and old documents featuring the natural history and ethnography of Tagkawayan’s political, economic, social and cultural evolution to commemorate and instill in the minds of our locals consciousness and sense of pride as Tagkawayanos.


FEBRUARY 03 Disco w/ Live Band


FEBRUARY 04 Tagkawayan Singing Idol 

A singing contest that opens the opportunity for aspiring singers of Tagkawayan to expose their God-given talent to the world.



FEBRUARY 05 & 06 Ginoo/Binibining Tagkawayan

An annual search for Tagkawayan’s most exceptional lady and gentleman around the town. This is the towns’version of braving a new meaning to beauty pageant by bringing to light the conscious effort of promoting the town’s beauty and culture. Winners of the pageant are its representatives and contenders to the annually held Ginoo at Binibining Quezon.



FEBRUARY 07 Variety Show 

Entertainment made for the locals that features variety of acts especially musical performances of local showbiz’ artists and talents, and is usually generously sponsored by the Provincial Governor’s Office.






FEBRUARY 08 Marca Pina Cooking Contest 

From the name of the activity itself, this is a culinary event sponsored by Marca Pina for the amateur cooks—housewives, HRM students, etc. that celebrates the culinary skills of food enthusiasts and tastes of home-cook goodness!



FEBRUARY 09 Sayawayan Festival and Street Dancing CompetitionDerived from the words SAYAW (dance), KAWAY (wave of hands usually in greeting people) and KAWAYAN (bamboo), Sayawayan is the manifestation of festive, lively and colorful activities of the town highlighting the use of local raw materials and products; everything creating a myriad of movements, figures, colors and sounds. Also cultural street dancing version of Tagkawayan that features the ritual dance and hand-signal traditions and costumes of the taga-kawayan.

FEBRUARY 10 Civic and Military Parade A joyous public walk or march around the town enjoined by the local municipal and barangay officials, agency heads and staff, teachers and students, groups and organizations accompanied by every public and private schools’ lyre bands celebrating the town’s special day.

Lyre Band Competition An event featuring the municipality’s different public and private schools’ lyre bands parading around the town and performing their exhibition in the Municipal Freedom Plaza for the purpose of both entertainment and competition.

Barangay Night A social gathering of local and barangay officials, agency heads and LGU employees, teachers, heads and members of local organization, associations and groups.

FEBRUARY 11 Palaro ng Lahi Tagkawayan’s version of Larong Pinoy featuring the Filipino traditional street games like Palo Sebo, Sepak Takraw, Habulan ng Biik, etc. organized annually by the AMULET (Association of Municipal Employees of Tagkawayan).

Gabi ng Kabataan A social gathering of all the Sangguniang Kabataan officers and members of the Youth Sector.

Hindi baba sa 40 miyembro ng Philippine National Police's Special Action Force ang kinumpirmang napatay matapos makasagupaan ang pwersa ng   Moro Islamic Liberation Frontsa lugar ng barangay in Mamasapano, Maguindanao.
Salaysay ni Espina, nagsimula ang operasyon alas-10:00 Sabado ng gabi, Enero 24 kung saan pangunahing target ang kilalang terorista at kilabot na bomber na si Zulkifli "Marwan" Abdhir na pinaniniwalaang napatay din sa engkwentro.

Matagumpay naman anya ang pagtugis sa suspek pero habang umaatras ang SAF, tinambangan sila ng pwersa ng Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) at nagkaroon ng misencounter sa hinihinalang mga MILF na patuloy pa rin nilang bineberipika.

Sa isang pahayag, tiniyak ng PNP na mabibigyan ng kaukulang benepisyo ang naulila ng mga pulis.

Inanunsyo ni Espina ang pagkakaroon ng board of inquiry para matukoy ang tunay na nangyari sa engkwentro.

    Tacloban City-The collaborative effort and partnership of the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office-8 and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United States (FAO-UN) was recently given commendation by theGovernment of Ireland through Irish Deputy Director Ms Lisa Doherty.
    This was learned in one of the sorties of the Irish Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Tradewherein the team visited the municipality of Sta. Fe, Leyte, one of the beneficiaries of the emergency seed distribution project of the FAO and DA-8.
    In her message, Ms Doherty expressed her gratitude for the productive visit of the team which the Parliamentary Officers of theIrish Joint Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade found beneficial.DA-8’s Regional Technical Director for Research and Regulations, Dr. Elvira C. Torres was present in the activity to discuss some updates and other projects that the DA-8 is implementing in so far as the rehabilitation effort of the agency is concerned.
    The team has also observed the positive results of the interventions being jointly implemented by DA-8 and FAO. The Irish delegates also lauded the progress of the community and their strong resiliency. The Irish government’s support has indeed made a great impact in recovering the livelihood activities of typhoon-affected farmers.
    In related development, Ms Doherty assured that the Irish government will continue to provide assistance in the ongoing rehabilitation activities in the agriculture sector of the region
